Electrical tape is usually based on soft polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film and coated with a specific adhesive, so it is also commonly called PVC electrical tape. Electrical tape has excellent electrical insulation properties such as weather resistance, wear resistance, acid and alkali resistance, anti-aging, flame retardant, coating and conformability, etc. It is widely used in various industries, suitable for wire wrapping, insulation protection, phase color logo, etc. Next, I will briefly introduce the development process of electrical tape and the current market demand and status quo.
To understand electrical tape, we have to explore the development process of electrical tape. In China, for most of the 20th century, cloth-based insulating tape (commonly known as “black tape”) dominated the world and basically occupied the entire electrical tape market. Black tape is based on acetate cloth, which has good insulation and entanglement, and is cheap, but it is not resistant to aging, easy to seep, easy to be corroded, easy to be affected by moisture, soaked in water, and not flame retardant. The limitations have become more and more inconsistent with the requirements of rapid development.
As early as the 1930s, people had generally used cotton-woven insulating tape for electrical insulation. By the 1940s, foreign companies and scientific research institutes had begun to study new types of electrical tapes. The 3M company in the United States was the first to study the use of PVC as an adhesive tape. One of the enterprises that manufacture electrical tapes based on base materials has a history of more than 60 years. In 1946, 3M patented PVC tape, and then introduced the first PVC tape to the market in 1948. After that, they successively improved the operating performance of the tape at low temperature, the flame retardant performance of PVC tape, the bonding force of the glued substrate, the low temperature performance of the tape, and the smoother unwinding of the tape.
After more than 60 years of continuous technological innovation and development, PVC electrical tape has been widely accepted around the world and has become a custom-made special material in the electrical field.
Because of its early presence in the Chinese market and its strong research and development capabilities, Naikos has always played a leading role in the electrical tape market. Its excellent quality and rich product line have already entered the global market.
